The first bud of idea to make a workshop that deal with 'ONE SELF" was in 1974 in Europe, but may be the grain came from Kuta Beach in Bali in the 1960's, ....... when i start seeing tourist of Hippy 's generation contemplating the sun down in Kuta beach, on the west horizon. The sun sleep in the west , the sun rise in the east. So hold on the middle , we lives between east and west,
Occident and orient within, then keep the past and future present now.
At that time in 1960, there were no tourist, the beach still a virgin nature. As Balinese, i was in my 15 years age afraid of wild waves of the sea, the wild wave of Kuta is the dwell of mysterious divinities or demonities. We are afraid to swim in that beach, rather to go to the east beach of Denpasar in Sanur, the wave is not so big and frightening.
In 1970's I met Marcel Robert, a Swiss actor rather meditative, exploratory, with spirit of experimentation and research .. We travel a lot with our motor bike, to meditate in one temple to other temple, and we did a theatrical work in the south beach of Jogyakarta, Parangtritis, with Swiss actor, Java, Bali, and children of that place participated too. And in 1974 he invited me to create a new theatrical work, based on Balinese mask and mask from Lötchental (Swiss mountain tradition big mask); we stayed on mountain Lötchental for one month and half, (if my memory is good) and out of that born a show that carry at least 3 names, called: "Les Gens du glacier", "Les jambes du glacier", "Les legendes du glacier" .
I came to Europe with a dance-theater show of Sardono W.Kusumo "la sorcière de Dirah", (30 actors, dancers, musicians, singers,from Java and Bali, there include 4 Balinese children of 10 years) in February 1974, invited by Jack Lang, for european tour. At the end of European tour, the group continued to festival of Shiraz in Persia, while me, with my broken foot (silly football match) i stay in France and then Marcel Robert took me to join his group in Geneva..... creation in Lötchental. Great experiences. Thanks Marcel. And later, thanks Susan Buirge, short co-operation, with my balinese friend I Made Netra (has passed to other invisible world), we create "Patra dance theater".
A dream was born in 60's :" Ahh, a theater group with international participants will be a joy to live together", The breeze of Kuta beach with its tourists whispering in my ears.
Then John Lennon sang "Imagine", it was a path encouraging to the way to Tribuana Theater of Life, an open way for all, way of moving reference of 3.
My work with Peter Brook give me one solid base to the path, to the way of the essential, from 1979 -1991 in Paris, in 4 recherche+production:
1."L'Os" and "La conférence des oiseaux" in French and English, International tour.
2. "Carmen", Peter Brook opera, International tour.
3. "Mahabharata", 9 months rehearsal in Paris and 10 days tour in India for 9 hours Theatrical performance, in French and in English, international tour. Film of 2 version: 6 hours, and 3 hours.
4. "La Tempête", in french, international tour.
Now, Tribuana has 25 fields to explore as lesson, i have difficulties to start with diversities of participants in experiences on "the tribuana way", difference in age, interest, ability to take a movement correctly, goal of search, instrument of expression, ....
I feel, Tribuana workshop of life must determine its steps, let's say the first steps is exploring briefly the whole lessons (25) to be able to embrace it globally, and then to explore deeply one by one. Tribuana is a reference of 3, that everybody can determine its variant references.
The new "lesson" is Prep: lesson n°: 0,
and the last one is "personal dialogue" : lessons n° 24. (declare to be born 21 july 2010), in fact has been practiced few years before but not announced as lesson yet. Its birth by skype conversation with Antonio Cargnello, while we preparing the last workshop of Caroman in September 2010. Yes a personal conversation with others in oneself.
Yes, after this, i will have a break, try to make a continuous Tribuana work at home for my 10 years daughter, Lutchia, and to open a "way" in Montreuil/Paris.
Ones created, Tribuana will always grows alone, has its nature does so.
A pronounced sentence is growing and transform itself, the creator of the sentence has a duty to maintain by feeding it with other words and action.

ah, i remember now, that i did stop my first step of workshop: movement/silat & balinese mask while i start working with Peter Brook, and friends from Geneva start demanding a workshop in 1989 (?) hmmm.
What Tribuana will do to me, ah ha, ...time of life will produce answer. To be or not to be in the way, any way, the way is keep flowing ...and growing,
